Know Your Enemy
Adult bed bugs are dark, reddish-brown insects that are flattened and wingless with bands of hairs.
The size of a bed bug us roughly ¼” long when fully grown (about the size of an apple seed). The immature nymphs (babies) are very small and translucent in color when they hatch. The nymphs are about the size of the ball point on a pen.
Bed bugs particularly like wood and fabric. They hide in cracks, crevices, narrow spaces and voids in close proximity to where people sleep or rest (i.e., bed frames, beds, night stands, dressers, desks, recliners, and sofas). Heavier infestations spread behind baseboards, wall cavities, window casings, and doors. Common areas to find bed bugs are behind items attached to walls and ceilings, picture frames, electrical switch plates, smoke detectors, loose wallpaper, in the pleats of window drapes, and within the upholstery of furniture.
The Black Spots you are noticing is digested blood the bed bugs are excreting; this is a sign of an infestation. If you found the spots on your mattress, you will want to remove the mattress and check your box springs. It is common to find more activity at this level.
